Anuria - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Anuria
Anuria is the failure of the kidneys to excrete urine. Anuria may result from severe disease of or inadequate blood flow through, the kidneys; or a complete blockage of urine flow by anything (such as stones or tumours) that, blocks both ureters or the bladder outlet, or obstructs the urethra. Anuria may be classified under two headings:
Anuria is an emergency needing urgent investigation so that its cause can be discovered and corrected, if possible. Otherwise renal dialysis (artificial filtering of waste products and water from the blood) must be used to prevent death from accumulation of waste products. Furthermore, symptoms of Anuria may vary on an individual basis for each patient. Only your doctor can provide adequate diagnosis of symptoms and whether they are indeed symptoms of Anuria. These depend largely upon the cause of the suppression and the length of time involved. If due to mechanical obstructions, there may be but little systemic disturbance or discomfort for some time. At other times, there is evidence of uremic poisoning very early, the first symptom being that of irritability, to be soon followed by twitching of the muscles, nausea, vomiting, convulsions, and a profound coma. Diagnosis — Is made by the use of the catheter, no urine being present in the bladder. The skin is cool and the temperature often subnormal. Prognosis — This will depend upon the cause giving rise to it.
