Erythrasma- Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Erythrasma
Erythrasma is the skin infection that is caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum. Erythrasma can affect the skin between the toes to cause flaking. cracking and sogginess that resemble the appearance of athletes foot. It can also occur in skin folds such as the groins, between the buttocks, under the breasts and in the armpits. causing irregular pink-brown scaly patches that look like intertrigo. The infection is found mainly in adults, and is more common in diabetics and people living in tropical climates. It is important to distinguish erythrasma from fungal skin infections. Doctors can readily do this by examining the affected skin with wood's light (ultraviolet light filtered through a special glass), under which erythrasma shows a characteristic coral-red fluorescence. The condition clears up promptly when treated with appropriate anti-biotics by mouth. Antibacterial soaps may help to prevent ecurrence. Bookmark This Page: |
