Flatulence - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Flatulence
Flatulence is the uncomfortable presence of air or wind in the stomach or intestines, leading to excessive passing of wind through the mouth or anus. Flatulence may result from swallowing too much air from gassy drinks, as a nervous habit, or from eating or drinking too quickly; from gas production in the largebowel by fermentation as the normal bacteria there digest fibres, especially those in legumes and vegetables of the cabbage family; and from bacterial metabolism of protein that has not been digested and absorbed in the small bowel. Flatulence may also be a feature of digestive disturbances such as dyspesia, irritable bowel syndrome or gall bladder disease. Attention to the cause will usually correct the problem.
