Frostbite - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Frostbite
Frostbite is the injury to tissues, particularly those of the ears, nose, toes and fingers, following prolonged exposure to extreme cold. The tissue injury is caused by formation of ice crystals in and between cells, causing the cells to rupture and die. Blood flow to the affected part stops, and clotting may occur in small vessels. Frostbitten parts are cold, ham, white and numb. GANGRENE can follow prolonged frost bite. Treatment involves slow warming.
