Goodpasture's Syndrome - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Goodpasture's Syndrome
Goodpasture's Syndromeia A rare Auto immune disease in which the immune system produces antibodies that attack one or more of the body's own tissues that mostly occurs in young men, though men and women of any age may be affected.
Goodpasture's syndrome is characterised by bleeding into the lungs and severe, progressive glomerulo nephritis (inflammation of the filtering units of the kidneys). Often the first symptom is severe haemoptysis (coughing up blood) and difficulty in breathing, followed by symptoms of rapidly developing kidney failuresuch as reduced urinary output and OEDEMA(accumulation of excessive fluid in tissues).
Goodpasture's syndrome is a serious disease that may be fatal. Treatment is by cortico steroid drugs and immuno suppresent drugs, and repeated replacement of blood plasma with a substitute to remove harmful antibodies from the cir-culation. If the kidneys are damaged beyond salvage, regular blood dialysis (artificial filtering of waste products and water from the blood) or a kidney transplant will be necessary
