Granuloma Inguinale - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Granuloma Inguinale
Granuloma Inguinale is a sexually transmissible disease caused by the bacterium Calymmatobacterium granulomatis, which gets in through a break in genital skin. Granuloma inguinale (also called Donovanosis) is common in some tropical and subtropical regions but rare in cooler climates. The first symptom of Granuloma Inguinale is the appearance on the genitals of one or more beefyred, oval nodules, which gradually enlarge and ulcerate. The ulcers are usually painless but Meed easily. If they become infected by other bacteria there can be a bad-smelling discharge. If they are inside the vagina they may not be noticed but a smelly discharge or bleeding between periods and after sex will be a sign that something is wrong. The infection can spread on the genitals and to the groins, but rarely to other parts of the body. Diagnosis of Granuloma Inguinale is by finding the bacteria in scrapings from the ulcer. Granuloma inguinale can be cured by antibiotics. If it is untreated, slow healing may lead to extensive genital scarring. |
