Heat Exhaustion- Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Heat Exhaustion

Heat Exhaustion is the collapse of the circulation due to excessive fluid loss frum sweating induced by strenuous activity at high temperatures. Heat exhaustion is most likely toaffect people who do heavy work in a hot environment ( miners, steelworkers). or athletes who compete at high temperatures to which they are not acclimatised.

Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion

Early symptoms include increasing laligue, weakness, anxiety and drenching sweats. Most athletes have been warned of the symptoms and advised to stop training or competing at the first signsof heat exhaustion, but the pressure of competition can make people push themselves beyond safety limits. If activity continues, blood pressure cannot be maintained and the results are cold, pale, clammy skin; a weak, slow pulse; loss of muscle coordination; mental disorientation, and eventual conapse.

Treament of Heat Exhaustion

If someone collapses from heat exhaustion, seek emergency medical treatment. Otherwise, lay the patient flat or with head down in a cool place. Remove clothing and sponge with coo lwater. Give small amounts of slightly salty fluids (1/2 teaspoon of salt per litre) every few minutes. If the patient has not begun to recover in 10 minutes, take him or her to hospital.
