Hernia- Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Hernia
Hernia is the protrusion of part or all of an organ or tissue through a weakness or opening in the muscle or connective tissue that normally keeps it in place. Abdominal hernias are the most common and are generally described according to where they occur. For example, the protrusion of part of the intestine through the abdominal wall may result in hernia around the navel (umbilical hernia) or in the groin Unguinal or femoral herniaL Causes of HerniaAbdominal hernias in infants and children are generally due to congenital weakness in parts of the abdominal wall. In adults the weakness may be caused by injury (for example surgical incision), Symptoms and Complication of HerniaThe only symptom may be a bulge at the site of the hernia, which often disappears on lying down later the bulge may be present all the time and usually aches. A strangulated hernia occurs when herniated bowel becomes twisted and its blood supply is reduced or cut off, causing sudden severe pain. Urgent treatment is needed to prevent GANGRENE of the affected section of the bowel. Treament of HerniaSmall hernias that can be pushed back easily and cause no pain may need only a supportive truss, larger hernias are treated by surgical repair of the weakness in the abdominal wall.
