Lymphomatoid Papulosis Information - Symptoms and Treatment


Lymphomatoid papulosis is a rare skin disease which are self healing skin lesions that look cancerous under the microscope but are actually benign (non-malignant). It is stubborn persistent rash that usually occurs on the chest, stomach, back, arms and legs. The rash often consists of red or brown bumps that have a crusty surface. The bumps heal in two to three weeks but new ones continue to form. This condition is slightly more common in women.Although most cases of lymphomatoid papulosis are benign, 10-20% of patients may have an associated lymphoma before, at the same time as, or after the diagnosis of lymphomatoid papulosis. This may be cutaneous T-cell lymphoma or an internal form of the disease.

Treatment of Lymphomatoid Papulosis

Treatment of Lymphomatoid Papulosis includes:

  • Lymphomatoid papulosis is difficult to treat and there is no cure for this condition.
  • Cortisone ointments will sometimes help.
  • Ultraviolet light treatment will help control lymphomatoid papulosis.
  • Methotrexate is sometimes used to treat lymphomatoid papulosis.

The following treatments are currently being used to hasten healing of lesions and/or suppress the disease.

  • Topical steroid creams
  • Phototherapy
  • Methotrexate
