Necrobiosis Lipoidica Diabeticorum Information - Symptoms and Treatment


Necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum is a skin disease which is closely realted with diabetes this is a lkind of rash that occurs on the lower legs. It is more common in women, and there are usually several spots. They are slightly raised shiny red-brown patches. The centers are often yellowish and may develop open sores that are slow to heal. . Most commonly affects the shins and is seen more often in women. More than fifty per cent of sufferers are found to have diabetes mellitus. The rash of reddened raised patches occurs as a result of a degenerative condition affecting the infrastructure of the skin that lies beneath the surface. The exact cause is not known and the condition goes through stages of activity and inactivity. One is not able to predict when the condition will flare up in this way, but treatment can be given with cortisone, either through applying cream or by injection to the affected area.

1) Proper cause is not known

2) Related with diabetes and usually occurs to the patients having diabetes.

3) Trauma and inflammatory and metabolic changes may be one of the possible causes

4) Antibody- medicated vasculitis may cause it.
