Shingles Information - Symptoms and Treatment


Shingles is a rash which is caused by the virus of chickenpox . It is very painful and causes blistering rashes also. It is a viral infection.You can only get shingles if you had chickenpox in the past or if you have had the chickenpox vaccine ("shot"). After having chickenpox the virus lies dormant in the nerves, and shingles occurs when it is revitalised in one particular nerve to the skin, thus explaining the way it affects a clearly demarcated band of skin only. In other words it is reinfection of the chickenpox viruses. This virus generally reappears if there is ant weakness in the immune system of our body or when we get older.Early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and reduce the risk of complications.

What are the symptoms of Shingles ?

Symptoms of Shingles includes:

  • Painful, blistering rash
  • Tingling, itching, numbness or extreme sensitivity in a certain part of the body
  • Rash begins with reddish bumps
  • Change in color of skin
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Upset stomach
  • Swollen eyelids, redness and pain
